Here's your chance to get a sneak peak at the masks that will be appearing in Manhattanpotamia. All of these were created by mask artist Michael R. Pauley, and are available for sale at his website: www.michaelrpauley.com.
These Characters are all based on historical research of the original Commedia Dell'Arte characters created in Italy during the 1400's. In the tradition of Commedia, Mr. Pauley and the company of actors have also created original and new characters, including the characters Gullabino and Rotunda.
These are just some of the great characters you will meet in Manhattanpotamia:
pANTALONE
the grand-daddy of commedia characters, Pantalone is the old, money grubbing grouch who is usually the reason why the young lovers in the story are being kept apart from one another.
iL cAPITANO
the signature commedia character, Il Capitano is a self appointed hero, who is the one character not from the town where the story takes place. he puts on a great show, is highly sexually charged, but in the end of the day proves to be afraid of his own shadow.
cOLUMBINA
an audience favorite, Columbina is the sexy confident for the young female lover. She is often the object of desire for the old men characters, and has an incredible relationship with the audience. She often plays a major role in helping the lovers come together.
iL dOTTORE
the bumbling, blustering doctor, Il Dottore often plays a role in helping the lovers. However everything that he says is often confusing and leads to more complications.
tARTAGLIA
the stuttering, stumbling Tartaglia usually plays a utility role in the story, either as a police officer or a judge. In our piece he is the Priest set to marry Il Capitano to Isabella.
aRLECHINA
the lovely, achrobatic, and loyal Arlechina is wise and plays a major role in bringing the two lovers together.
gULLABINO
an original creation! Gullabino is a lovable character who has the memory of a goldfish but proves to be a good and loyal friend to Arlechina and Lelio.
wILD zEBRA
